Serious Seeds: A Little History
Serious Seeds is one of the most veteran Cannabis seed banks in Europe. To understand its history, we need to go back to the 1980s. Simon, a biologist from Amsterdam who knew little about marijuana, embarked on a journey to South Africa that would change his life. During this trip, Simon discovered the world of Cannabis and developed a special interest in it.
Following this journey, the creator of Serious Seeds began searching for the best Cannabis genetic strains in the world. Simon’s life began to revolve around his quest for the best Cannabis, and eventually, he became a breeder. This allowed him to continue travelling the world to document the best cannabis genetics he encountered along the way.
It was upon his return to his lab in Holland that Simon began experimenting and crossing these exceptional cannabis strains. This is how the first Serious Seeds strains, as we know them today, came into existence. It’s no surprise that the Sensi Seeds team noticed this breeder’s progress. He then left his job as a biology teacher and started dedicating himself professionally to cannabis.
Although Simon was already a Cannabis lover and scholar, it wasn’t until his partnership with Sensi Seeds that he began earning a living from it. The collaboration between the founder of Serious Seeds and Sensi Seeds brought him a wealth of experience and allowed him to understand how a seed bank operates from the inside. The Early Steps of Serious Seeds
After these early successes, Simon decided to continue on his own and set up his own seed bank: Serious Seeds, in 1995. His technical knowledge, years of experience at Sensi Seeds, and passion for marijuana meant that Serious Seeds quickly took off in the commercial Cannabis seed market.
In 1997, two of his most recognised strains, Kali Mist and Warlock, achieved success in international competitions. Although its exact genetic origins are not entirely known, there are two widely accepted versions of its lineage. One version suggests it’s a cross between a Northern Lights and an Afghan plant. The other, more commonly accepted version, says it’s a cross between Northern Lights and Big Bud.
What we do know for sure is that Chronic from Serious Seeds is the result of a Northern Lights crossed with another highly productive and resilient plant, giving it great stability.
The result of this cross is a plant with 30% Indica and 70% Sativa genetics. This gives it balanced and potent effects, with up to 18% THC.
