Movies about marijuana VOL I
At Experiencia Natural we have thought of you (and ourselves, of course!) and we have prepared a list of movies about marijuana. This list is divided into three groups: marijuana humor, weird movies that could well have been written or directed by a good stoner, and documentaries and more serious movies with the magic plant as the main character.
Marijuana-related humor movies
First of all, we recommend those movies where our plant friend is the protagonist and humor is the main engine of the plot. These movies will not only make you laugh, but will also immerse you in funny and absurd situations related to the use and culture of marijuana. From hilarious adventures to stories of friendship and discovery, these movies stand out for their witty humor and memorable characters. If you’re looking for a dose of laughs and entertainment, these marijuana-themed humor movies are a must for your playlist.
All or almost all of Cheech and Chong’s movies, would fit into this category. These two are a comedy and musical duo that backs up their career with 10 movies and 10 albums. You can check it out in this wikipedia link.
Two very stoned stoners
It narrates the adventures of Harold and Kumar, which provide us with delirious moments accompanied by good amounts of green… To date they have 2 movies: Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, and Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle (Escape from Guantanamo).
How High
When a pair of rappers lose one of their best friends in a fire, they decide to honor him by using his ashes as soil to plant marijuana. When it grows and they smoke it, they notice that they can communicate with the afterlife. With the help of their friend, and the greatest of the departed intellectuals, they manage to get, against all odds, to Harvard. The great thing about this film, which has many unexpected parts and is strongly linked to the American ghetto culture, is that it stars Method Man and Redman, two of the most famous rappers. Of course, it is designed and recommended in particular to those who like rap and this movement in general.
Half Baked
This is the story of four very peculiar friends who spend all their time smoking when they are at home. One day, one of them is arrested for unintentionally causing the death of a NYPD horse by feeding it all kinds of junk food, only to discover it was diabetic. The three remaining friends must raise the money needed to pay the bail and get their buddy out of jail. Their solution? Selling stolen marijuana from the pharmaceutical laboratory where one of them works. This plan leads them into a series of hilarious and unexpected situations as they navigate their way through the world of illicit drug sales to rescue their friend.
Grandma’s boy
Alex works testing new games for the Brainasium company. Despite being the most senior among his colleagues, he is also the best at his job. When he is kicked out of his apartment for non-payment (because his partner spent the rent money on Madame Wu’s “therapeutic massages”), Alex tries to move in with his “dealer,” but finds that his dealer has bought a “guardian lion” and cannot accommodate him. In the end, Alex has no choice but to move in with his lovely and charming grandmother and her octogenarian friends.
To avoid embarrassment, he tells his co-workers that he lives with three hot young women. However, the “grannies” are a tough bunch, and they end up getting involved in all of Alex’s wild escapades. These adventures include alcohol, karaoke, weed, a voodoo sorcerer, a karate monkey, hot chicks galore, and all kinds of mischief. The blend of Alex’s youthful antics and the unexpected participation of his grandmother and her friends makes for a hilarious and unforgettable story. You will love it!
Pineaple Express
Which we told you about previously in the post about the same variety of bank PINEAPPLE EXPRESS. Dale is a guy who works in the business of serving legal summons. He buys marijuana from a dealer named Saul, who introduces him to a new kind of weed called Pineapple Express, named after an atmospheric phenomenon. Saul is eager to befriend Dale, but Dale is only interested in maintaining a business relationship. This dynamic sets the stage for a series of unexpected events and adventures, as Saul’s attempts to connect with Dale lead to more than just business transactions.
Scarfies
A group of young people who decide to occupy a house and what they find in it is a marijuana crop. They decide to start selling it, and suddenly the original owner of the house shows up and claims what is his… Imagine that!
Movies to freak out stoned
This series of movies belonged to our first block that was centered in movies of stoner humor. Now let’s go with the second block that we propose you, which covers those rarer films, which were almost conceived to be enjoyed well stoned.
Any film by Jan Svankmayer can be highly recommended, including his version of Alice in Wonderland, a film that is complete on Youtube, here is a link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ME29wn4PW68
I also recommend any film by Peter Greenaway. And among them I would highlight:
The cook, the thief, his wife and his lover
The story introduces us to Albert who is the sadistic owner of a high society restaurant. His strong character and the tyrannical ways he applies at work make all employees are subjected to a continuous regime of slavery, including his wife, Giorgina, whom he ridicules.and in the story gets a bookseller who falls in love with Giorgina, which in turn, corresponds to the literary gallon with some wink that Albert can not help but see Revenge is served on a cold plate.
The Pillow Book
In Kyoto, in the 1970s, an elderly calligrapher delicately writes a greeting on his daughter’s face on her birthday. As she grows older, Nagiko is moved by the memory of that gift, and searches for the ideal calligrapher-lover who will use her whole body as a blank sheet of paper.
Delicatessen
This film is by Jean Pierre Jeunet (yes, the director of Amelie). In an immense wasteland, stands an old building inhabited by people of rather strange habits who have only one concern: to feed themselves. The owner is a peculiar butcher who has his establishment on the first floor of the block. There arrives a new tenant who works in the circus and who will alter the life of the eccentric community that inhabits it.
Yellow Submarine
This is also one of The Beatles’ songs. Once upon a time, or maybe twice upon a time, there was an unearthly paradise called Pepperland, a place where happiness and music reigned supreme. But this well-being was threatened when The Blue Meanies declared war and sent their army, led by the menacing Flying Glove, to destroy all that was good.
Now finally we are going to recommend you some more serious films and documentaries that cover from the uses of our friend marijuana to all its legislature and history:
Now the most serious marijuana movies
Savages
With a great cast, this movie about marijuana tells the story of some friends in California. The good life they lead and what they decide to do lead them to some unexpected situations. In the plot there are also not so usual loves. In short, a film with a great production, script and cast, highly recommended.
The garden of joy
Grace, widow of a pilot, inherits a mansion on the coast of Cornwall and, at the same time, the numerous debts contracted by her husband. Overwhelmed by her financial difficulties, she finds salvation in growing marijuana. With the help of her gardener, she transforms her orchid greenhouse into a profitable business producing the forbidden plant.

Reefer Madness
It is one of the first films about marijuana, dating from 1936. It is a propagandistic and exaggerated film about the effects of joints and marijuana, narrating the story of several young people who end up going crazy because of its consumption (good absurdity). In 2005, a remake was made for television as a musical, Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical, directed by Andy Fickman and starring Kristen Bell and Christian Campbell. It is the cliché Yankee warning, but it is worth watching just for the outrageous things they say in some moments… We leave you a link to the full movie (in English).
Marijuana
It may be the first of all Cannabis films, shot in 1935. During the 1930s, the great hypocrisy in the exploitation formula was in making the public believe that they were not pursuing profit, but simply to enlighten and warn adults of the evils lurking in our midst. If certain images were found inciting or disturbing, their goal of “educating” gave them license to show them. This is a complete film about the “advertising” of marijuana almost a century ago.
Leaves of Grass
Edward Norton is a college professor who returns to his hometown to bury his twin brother who has just been murdered. Once there he finds out that he is alive and that his supposed death was part of a plan to lure him to the town and get him into a peculiar feud against a local drug dealer. This drug dealer turns out to be his main competitor in the sale of marijuana grown by himself thanks to his knowledge of hydroponics.
And the documentaries about marijuana
Hashish Connection
Interesting documentary about the action in the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon, where there is a big trade of hashish, heroin and weapons…Shots, camouflaged drugs, fights, inspections…Very entertaining! We leave you a preview that we found out there.
Hashish. Documentary about cannabis, more oriented to the Moroccan area, how they make hashish and how they distribute it.
The hashish route
It is about the creation of hashish in the world, and its major exporters. It is available for free distribution and you can watch it on this website.
Grass
It is one of the most important documentaries about Cannabis in the United States. The documentary describes fifty years of the fight against drugs in the United States (also known as War on Drugs), from 1930 to 1980. The director of this marijuana film Ron Mann used official material, mainly from U.S. government campaigns, which they used as a weapon to eradicate the drug. The result is sadly comical. Billions of dollars were spent and the number of consumers went from 60,000 to 30 million. I wish they had given it to the poor don’t you.
Super High Me
This is a documentary about the effects of using marijuana non-stop for 30 days. It stars comedian Doug Benson. Super High Me shows Benson not using marijuana within 30 days and then consumingcannabis every day for the 30 days in a row.
The Union
It is a documentary that tells us about all the business behind our plant friend, very interesting and recommended to know a little better how what you smoke gets into your hands.
Cannabis
Very rare and unknown film, we have not found a link to it, although if we know what it is about and who appears we attach the information we have found.
And nothing more friends, we hope you liked this article and you get ready to see these funny movies. With all that we have indicated, there is enough for a while! As always thank you very much for reading us and a cannabis greeting.
